DREAM THEATER - A Change Of Seasons

I přes stopáž 57 a půl minuty není tohle CD regulérním novým albem americké pěticeů toho se můžeme nadát až někdy v průběhu příštího
roku. Jde v podstatě o takové "delší" EP, rozdělené na dvě části. Tu první tvoří třiadvacetiminutová titulní skladba, napsaná už
v roce 1989 společně s většinou písní pro druhé album "Images And Words" (kdyby vám někdo vykládal něco jiného, nevěřte), na nějž se
nakonec nevešla. Kapela ji poté dvakrát předvedla i živě, ale studiového zvěčnění se až letos v květnu, paradoxně pod dohledem Davida
Pratera, který produkoval právě "Images And Words" a na jehož pracovní metody mezitím hudebníci v rozhovorech zhusta nadávali.
Neslyšel jsem žádný z bootlegů, zachycujících živé provedení skladby, takže nemůžu posoudit, jak velkou úpravou od svého vzniku
prošla, ale v zaznamenané podobě "A Change Of Seasons" bohužel patří k tomu nejslabšímu, co DREAM THEATER vydali. Kompozice, rozdělená
ještě na sedm podčástí, samozřejmě nepostrádá melodické i aranžérské nápady, nezbytné k udržení pozornosti na tak velkém časovém úseku,
ale přece jen kaksi chybí ona pověstná červená nit, která by z výsledku učinila něco víc, než skládanku zajímavých motivů, podepřených
již automaticky očekávanou virtuozitou všech zůčastněných. Navíc instrumentální úvod "The Crimson Sunset" i následující "Innocence"
působí poněkud rozplizleji, než zbytek, a to je u části, které by měly posluchače navnadit a vtáhmnout do celku, dost na pováženou.
Neuškodilo by také ubrat na celkovém patosu, který už chvílemi začíná přerůstat únosnou mez.
Zbytek hrací doby vyplňuje záznam části ojedinělého vystoupení, které se pod názvem "Dream Theater Uncovered" uskutečnilo letos
v lednu v londýnském jazzovém klubu Ronnieho Scotta. Dream Theater tam hráli za účasti několika zajímavých hostů (na nahrávce se však
nejspíše ze smluvních důvodů, nikdo z nich neobjevuje) písně svých oblíbených interpretů - ze zde zastoupených třeba RUSH, BEATLES,
METALLIKY, Tori Amos, U.K. či YES. Z nahrávky máme možnost posoudit, jak si pánové poradili s díly Eltona Johna, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin
a v závěrečném Big Meddley s úryvky skladeb Pink Floyd, Kansas, Queen, Journey, Dixie Dregs a Genesis. Záznam však nelze brát jako nějaký
tribute či cover projekt jakých je dnes na trhu spousta. DREAM THEATER totiž nacvičili tenhle repertoár během zvukových zkoušek a ve
volném čase v průběhu předchozího japonského turné skutečně jen pro tuto mimořádnou příležitost. Většinu písní (některé pouze
v instrumentální podobě) tedy logicky provedli nanejváš věrně, ovšem s jasným vkladem vlastní interpretační individuality. Výsledkem
je zajímavá konfrontace dvou generací art- či hard rocku, a i když mám výhrady k často zbytečně přeexponovanému LaBrieho zpěvu,
nepřirozenědo basů posazené kytaře v !Perfect Strangers" nebo "jedovatým" syntetickým hammondkám (Derek Sherinian, pro něhož je deska
gramofonovou premiérou s DREAM THEATER, by si radši měl pořídit opravdové) je tahle část mnohem poslouchatelnější než titulní "kláda".
Ale možná tady zbytečně rozpitvávám jen bonbónek pro nejvěrnější fanoušky, kteří jsou samozřejmě nekritičtí a teprve další opravdové
album ukáže, zda je kapele již nejednou přiřčený status bohů progresivního metalu oprávněný.
